NASCAR entered the second week of its three-week “West Coast Swing” looking for some good news in the TV ratings department, following ratings being down for nearly every race in the season. Unfortunately for NASCAR, the weekend at Phoenix brought more of the same, with both Cup and Xfinity being down compared to 2015.
NASCAR Sprint Cup Series: Good Sam 500(k)
2016 TV Viewership: 6,630,000
2015 TV Viewership: 7,000,000
Difference: 370,000 viewer decrease (5.29% drop)
NASCAR Xfinity Series: Axalta Faster. Tougher. Brighter. 200
2016 TV Viewership: 1,800,000
2015 TV Viewership: 2,500,000
Difference: 700,000 viewer decrease (28.00% drop)
The Xfinity race saw an absolutely huge drop off; when placed with the Sprint Cup race at Atlanta and the Xfinity Series race at Daytona in February, NASCAR has had three races across its two biggest series have a 28% drop year-to-year in viewership- and there’s no good way to spin those numbers.
