Drew Herring will be making his first start at the Bristol Motor Speedway Friday night in the Food City 250. He’ll be driving the #18 Z-Line Designs Toyota for Joe Gibbs Racing.
This will be the third start of the year for the 26-year old Benson, NC driver. Previously he had raced at both Iowa events, which included a pole in the second race. Herring has mostly worked as a test driver for JGR and in their shop, so any opportunity is a great one.
“I’m really looking forward to getting back behind the wheel of a Joe Gibbs Racing Nationwide Series car., especially with the 18 car that has been the stable car at JGR in years past. I can’t thank Jim and Monica Sexton and everyone at Z-line designs for coming on board; I’m excited to have the opportunity to represent them this weekend in Bristol,” said Herring.
For his first start he has a quality team behind him. The Joe Gibbs Racing organization has 59 career starts at Bristol, which includes five wins, 14 top-5s, and 24 top-10s in those starts.
“This will be my first time working with Matt Lucas and the guys on the 18. They have been fast each time they have hit the track with a win earlier at Daytona and a strong run and pole this past weekend. Hopefully Matt and myself can get a communication line set quick and I can get acclimated to the track early and have a really solid weekend,” Herring continued.
The action for Herring and the Nationwide Series gets underway at 7:30 PM EST and can be seen on ESPN.
