The Las Vegas race weekend came only a few days after it was announced that the track would host two NASCAR weekends in 2018, both featuring Truck/Xfinity/Cup tripleheader events. However, this news did not provide any help for the track in terms of gaining viewers for their events.
The Xfinity Series race was down just 3,000 viewers; at a 0.18% decrease this might as well have been no change.
The Cup Series did not fair anywhere near as well. The event failed to top 6 million viewers on FOX, representing a 17.36% decrease in viewers from the 2016 race. Las Vegas joins Atlanta as the second Cup race of the season to have a viewership decrease. The Daytona 500 still stands as the only Cup race of the year to see a viewership increase over 2016.
