2017 Team Rankings – Race 4

Fun fact, Phoenix dropped “international” from its name. It’s now only known as Phoenix Raceway. Or as I like to say, “the artist formally Phoenix International Raceway.”

1              Team Penske

Strong runs for both teams for most of the race, a tire took Joey Logano out of contention and despite the fifth place finish, things aren’t rosey for Brad Keselowski. His team will be without their crew chief Paul Wolfe for the next three races after a failed post-race inspection.

2              Chip Ganassi Racing

Some might start calling Kyle Larson either Harry Gant or Sterling Marlin with how many runner up finishes he’s piling up. Yet again he was oh so close to a win, just to have it lost late in the race. While Larson keeps those finishes up and is leading the points, Jamie McMurray is still having strong runs. Despite the 15th place finish, McMurray is showing that all is right at CGR.

3              Furniture Row Racing

A week after winning, Martin Truex Jr had a decent 11th place finish, while rookie teammate Erik Jones put forth his best finish with an eighth place. Once Jones gets a bit more experience, this team as a whole will be quite dangerous down the stretch.

4              Wood Brothers Racing

Ryan Blaney cursed Dale Earnhardt Jr and now has a whole mess of Junior Nation fans hating on him. That’s fine, during the week he was able to meet the star of the Star Wars films Daisy Finley. Oh, and on track he did good most of the race, but slipped late for 23rd. It’s all good though.

5              Hendrick Motorsports

It was Jimmie Johnson leading the way for HMS by finishing 9th, but not that far behind was Chase Elliott. That kid is just hitting his stride and once he wins once, will win a lot. Dale Earnhardt Jr took his brightly colored car for a solid 14th place finish. And Kasey Kahne was 20th. Very Kasey Kahne like finish.

6              Stewart-Haas Racing

Kevin Harvick led the way, but a post-race infraction will cost him 10 points and his crew chief Rodney Childers for one week. Clint Bowyer put in another solid run in 13th. Battery issues bit Kurt Busch once again and Danica Patrick was Danica.

7              Richard Childress Racing

Ryan Newman was able to snap his long winless streak and Richard Childress Racing’s long standing streak. It was a gutsy call that salvaged the weekend after some embarrassment on Saturday courtesy of Austin Dillon, and a so-so 21st place finish for Paul Menard.

8              Roush Fenway Racing

Strategy helped Ricky Stenhouse Jr not only capture a top-5 finish, but also helped Ryan Newman win the race. Now that second part was unintentional but it did happen. On the other side, Trevor Bayne was an ok 19th to mostly cancel out what Stenhouse was able to do.

9              Joe Gibbs Racing

Strong runs for Kyle Busch, Daniel Suarez (first top-10 finish) and Denny Hamlin helped to make up for yet another disappointed Matt Kenseth race. Granted it was a lost tire for Kenseth, but this team can’t quite get all four teams going at the same time.

10           Leavine Family Racing

Michael McDowell got a little testy with AJ Allmendinger and got some air time. Not bad for the 24th place finisher.

11           Richard Petty Motorsports

Phoenix was a decent run for Aric Almirola, he placed 17th and brought the car home in one piece.

12           JTG Daugherty Racing

The aforementioned Allmendinger’s highlight was being the pain in McDowell’s side. Once again Chris Buescher finished right in the tire tracks of ‘Dinger.

13           Germain Racing

Ty Dillon was able to outpace his brother for a 16th place finish. Next week he gets to debut a new sponsor, Twisted Tea.

14           TriStar Motorsports

Cole Whitt crashed out of the event, before that was running near the back.

15           Go FAS Racing

Another solid 29th place finish for Matt DiBenedetto and company.

16           Front Row Motorsports

An accident bit David Ragan, but Landon Cassill was able to motor home in 28th.

17           Beard Motorsports

Did not attempt Phoenix.

18           Tommy Baldwin Racing

Did not attempt Phoenix.

19           Premium Motorsports

Both Derrike Cope and Reed Sorenson finished the race. The highlight being Sorenson exacting revenge for Daytona on Corey LaJoie in this race.

20           Circle Sport with TMG

That was a long way to travel to run 9 laps and park it.

21           BK Racing

Two wrecked cars, sounds like what we’ll hear most weekends for this team.

22           Rick Ware Racing

Only seven laps off the pace for Timmy Hill.

23           Gaunt Brothers Racing

Did not attempt Phoenix.
