Cup Series Charter Flow Chart

Will all the wheeling and dealing (pun intended) of Charters, I pieced together this picture (below, click to expand into a readable size) of how they have all sorted out since 2015. There is one wildcard left, Rick Ware Racing (RWR) recently boasted about having two charters. What is not known is where they got them from and if they purchased or leased them. My theory, based on how things have gone down, is that they will purchase one charter from Richard Petty Motorsports (RPM) and lease or purchase one from Front Row Motorsports (FRM).

The rule is you cannot lease a Charter more than once every five years, so each of the RPM Charters have been leased, which is why they’d have to sell. That and there is no talk of them expanding back to two teams. FRM has announces three teams, but sits with four Charters. I’m not sure their future plans for four cars, but if they lease to RWR then all of their Charters have been leased and in 2020 they will need to sell or field a fourth car.

If anything should be different, let me know in the comments.
