With Matt Crafton closing in on his first Camping World Truck Series championship, I decided to take a look back at his career. A few things stood out to me, the first is he’s driven for ThorSport Racing since 2000, minus 2004 when he drove for Kevin Harvick, Inc. That’s an astonishing 13 years, which is normal for Sprint Cup Series standards, not usually Camping World Truck Series standards.
Another thing is the surprising lack of laps led by Crafton. He’s led 608 laps in his 314 starts over the course of 14 years. By comparison, Kyle Busch has led 4,624 laps in 114 career starts. Might go hand in hand, but Crafton has only won three races in career, and never more than once in a given year.
While he won’t be finding himself in the NASCAR Hall of Fame anytime soon or at all, Crafton has crafted himself a solid career.
