Besides the trophy and money there was something else Carl Edwards got for winning last weekend at Bristol. Pressure off him and his team about getting into the Chase after 26 races.
“The biggest thing it does is take pressure off, and allow us to go have more fun. It is nice to be able to race like that. I had a good time racing last week. That last caution came out and there was a lot of pressure there. Fortunately it rained and we got the victory. Now, to come here to one of my favorite race tracks, it has to be one of the most fun tracks to drive on the circuit because of the way the pavement has aged and the tire you can slide the car around quite a bit. We are just working on our Subway Ford and hoping we can get another victory this weekend,” Edwards told media members Friday at the Auto Club Speedway.
That doesn’t meant that Edwards doesn’t care about points and where he is in the standings.
“Of course. Mathematically we aren’t in the Chase. If 26 guys win races then the points are going to be pretty important. We are aware of that. We aren’t going to go crazy right now. We are going to kind of see how things go for the next month or so and then once we really feel like we are locked in – the easiest way to lock ourselves in is to win this weekend, then we will be good. Once we are in that position, it will be completely pressure free which will be really nice. This is the first time I have been in the media center in awhile, that is another perk of winning; I get to talk to you guys. I am glad to be back,” explained Edwards.
This weekend’s Auto Club 400 can be seen Sunday on FOX, starting at 3 PM EST.
