With a slow start to the 2014 Clint Bowyer and his fans were ready to toss in the towel and move on to 2015. With sponsorship and pride on the line, drivers can’t do that, and that’s a good thing as he and his Michael Waltrip Racing team have begun to turn the corner on the season.
“I think Daytona kind of set our season when we started with a barrel roll — flipped on the front straightaway at the end of the race. And then the very next attempt the engine blew up halfway through the race. I’m like ‘Can we skip this year. This is not starting very good.’ Last weekend at Talladega — a lot of good news. A lot of good momentum and ‘mojo’ around our 15 team,” commented Bowyer to media members at the Kansas Speedway on Friday.
The ‘mojo’ has been on and off the track for Bowyer. Off the track he recently got married and announced his new bride and he will be expecting their first child later this year. On the track he’s locked into a new deal with Michael Waltrip Racing and sponsor 5-Hour Energy, who double as this weekend’s race sponsor at Bowyer’s home track.
“It couldn’t come at a better time. Rolling into home at Kansas Speedway — sponsor’s race and the last race before the All-Star race. We’ve had some shots at it — Martinsville, California and Texas — we were running good. If we can get all of the race put together and close, I think we can have a shot at it. I really do,” continued Bowyer.
Bowyer will look to get their first win of the season and punch his ticket into the Chase when they run the 5-Hour Energy 400 on Saturday night. Fans can catch the action on FOX starting at 7:30 PM EST.
