Rookie Kyle Larson heads to the Michigan International Speedway this weekend on the heels of a very successful outing last weekend at the Pocono Raceway. Larson won the Saturday ARCA event and finished fifth in the Sprint Cup Series race on Sunday. When he spoke to the media Friday morning at Michigan, Larson was very upbeat about being in the Irish Hills.
“I like Michigan a lot. It’s a 2-mile track. I think I do well on the 1.5-mile to 2-mile race tracks. I wish I would have gotten to race here before they repaved it,” commented Larson.“ We did well here in the Nationwide race last year and looking for some good things again this week.”
This could be the start of a very successful summer for Larson and his Chip Ganassi Racing team. Soon the circuit will be hitting tracks for the second time around giving Larson more information on how to handle the tracks and getting his first win.
“I think Michigan is a good track for a first win. It’s the size race track that I like. We have been close a few times. We have been pretty competitive every week so I think just keep knocking on the door and the wins will come,” explained Larson. “Just have to stay consistent and put yourself in contention each week to try and sneak out a win.”
The Quicken Loans 400 gets underway at 1 PM EST on Sunday and fans can catch the action on TNT.
