About Start ‘N’ Park Blog
Start ‘N’ Park Blog was founded in July of 2010 when two co-workers decided they needed a website that housed the NASCAR information they would spend house searching for online. As an added bonus, they also saw a forum for them to be able to write about NASCAR and give their view point on what’s going on.
So that fateful Summer afternoon Michael Metzger and Greg Netherwood went out to create what they saw as the perfect site for fans to be informed, give their views, and lose time looking up historical information.
The name Start ‘N’ Park Blog was chosen as ironic to the situation that plagued NASCAR at the time, teams that would start races then immediately park their cars to collect the checks. Since then, the site has embraced these teams to an extent, because like SnPB they’re fighting the good fight, and trying to make it as a small fish in a big pond.
Greg would later leave the blog to focus in on his own racing career, leaving Michael full in charge of the site.
In August of 2012, Michael along with Brittany Snyder, covered the NASCAR weekend at Watkins Glen as full media members. The experience was amazing for the both as they had never been on that side of things during the race weekend.
They both learned a lot that weekend, which allowed them to leverage what they learned into passes for the March 2013 race at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. That was another great experience on learning what works during a weekend and what doesn’t, from a coverage standpoint. It also allowed Michael to network with some PR reps in the NASCAR world for some exclusive interviews with drivers such as up and comer Kyle Larson and Blake Koch.
The duo returned to Watkins Glen in August of 2013 with a much better plan. Here Michael was able to interview Brendan Gaughan and David Stremme. They also met up with contributing writer Jason Schultz to film some weekend previews on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
In 2014, Brittany and Michael returned to Watkins Glen once again. This time, through a partnership with Can-Am Spyder, they were able to get “hot” passes for the entire weekend. That allowed them to be mere feet away from the action on pit road and allowed for a memorable experience watching the pit crews work. Once again, Michael met up with Jason to record some material for podcasts (seen above).
For the 2015 and 2016 seasons, Michael and Brittany let the site take a back seat to life. Between getting married and buying a house there wasn’t enough time to rightly focus on the website. Luckily different individuals were gracious enough to step in and help in their absence. Jason continued to produce great material and Steven at Speedway Digest help set up a RSS feed to keep the news flowing into the site. In 2016 saw the departure of Jason, but the addition of Phoenix (also known by his Twitter handle @TightOff) to add a touch of sarcasm into looking at the world of NASCAR.
Big changes are coming for the 2017 season. Among them is a re-focus of what the site is about, and now it will be strictly just about the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series. This will give Michael and Brittany more time to deliver great content on here. With this re-focus comes a rebirth of sorts of Michael and the site. It was always to be an outlet to have his opinions known about the sport he loves, so with that this season will be about returning to those principles that drove him to start the blog seven years ago.
